Hard to believe this boiler mounts right on the wall and will heat our whole building.

Today is the BIG day - the boiler / water heater day. The last few weeks have been crazy. At my husband's suggestion I checked our original contractor's credit only to find judgments against him to the tune of $36,000 or more - very recent judgments. That being the case - we didn't trust handing him half our money up front. I don't have a lot of experience dealing with contractors - but my husband said that most contractors who've been in the business for a while and have good credit - ask for the payment when the work is done.
So - back to my spreadsheet of bids. We went up one contractor - he had recently had drug charges filed against him. Up one more contractor -A+ rating with the BBB and never had any judgments filed in the state of Alaska - works for me. So here we are with an $11,000 loan but a $12,560 bid. This months going to be tight - but worth the peace of mind.
Today is the BWH day - today and tomorrow they will rip out our 20+ year old heating system to install a new heating / water heating system that should be 95% efficient and put out more consistent heat and hot water. The boiler will be wall mounted - imagine that - and we'll go from 2 80 gallon independent water heaters to 1 80 gallon water heater run off the boiler. We should gain a ton of space - I'm going to go get "before" pictures before it's too late... and in about an hour and half - while I'm at work - the magic will begin...
It's all down hill from here - right?

Lucky you!! We looked into the instant water heater, but it was too expensive and required additional permits and such. Glad you found out about the contractor too. Paying an extra $1500 is nothing compared to giving someone money to do something and never seeing the money again. You know up front and everything is good. Good call Thomas!
